Behavioural Counselling for Pets

Whether they are young or old, well-behaved or a bit rowdy, all pets and their loving human families can benefit from behavioural counselling. Here at Animal Medical Centre, we can provide you with the right skills and know-how to ensure that your pet stays on their best behaviour. We can help you spend more time enjoying your furry friend’s company, instead of stressing out about it. Call us at 902.564.8356 (Sydney location) or 902.849.3725 (Reserve Mines location) to schedule your behavioural consultation today and to find out more about how we can help you and your pet.

Does my pet need behavioural counselling?

What we often say to pet parents is that if they see their pet’s behaviour is negatively affecting their daily routine, putting other animals and humans in danger or any kind of discomfort (including the pet in question) then it may be time for them to come in for behavioural counselling.

How can behavioural counselling help my pet?

When you consult with medically trained professionals like those in our team, you can ensure that you will receive advice and tips based on proven scientific work. Instead of looking online or listening to random anecdotes, our team can help you form a treatment plan catered specifically to your unique situation. Our behavioural counselling techniques will provide you with the skills to deal with your pet’s current issues as well as any future problems that may arise in the future.

What happens at the initial pet behavioural counseling meeting?

Like with most consultations here at AMC, the meeting begins with a general wellness exam of your pet. Then, you will have a detailed conversation with our team to discuss the specific problems you are experiencing in terms of your pet’s behaviour. After this, we will create a therapy plan for your pet, and we will show you exactly what you can do to alter your pet’s behaviour. When it comes to behaviour issues, multiple consultations and treatment tweaks may be needed until we arrive at the desired results.

Dear Clients,

For the safety of our staff and clients, we have implemented a “Closed Door Policy” which means our clinic doors are no longer open to the public. Here is what that means for you:

  • We ask that on arrival for your appointment you call us (902)564-8356 Sydney and let us know you are in the parking lot
  • A member of our team will then take a history on your pet by phone, they will then meet you at our front door to take your pet inside while you return to your car
  • Your veterinarian will perform an examination of your pet and then call you with exam findings and any suggested treatment plans
  • Any necessary medications will be prepared in the clinic for you, and will be sent with your pet when we are ready to send them home
  • Payments for appointments can be taken over the phone or by payment at the door
  • All food and drug orders are still required to be called in beforehand and prepaid over the phone
  • All future updates will be posted on social media as our situation with COVID-19 in our province is constantly changing
  • We also request that clients refrain from using our emergency line for anything other than true emergencies

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to give us a call at (902) 564-8356 Sydney. With the implementation of this closed door policy, it is a longer process so we ask for your patience and co-operation during this time

Please note the phone lines may be busier, but we will get to you as soon as we can. We have zero tolerance for verbal abuse.

Again, we thank you for your patience and co-operation during this trying time.
